How Do You Make An Umbrella Symbol
Pepi, Luci, Bom and other girls like Maria Emilia - Column # 2
Pepi, Luci, Bom and other girls like Maria Emilia
( Column # 2 published in 2008 to the late portal Ekovoces News )
She fastens his pants, he sleeps, snoring. The hotel always, always action. Suddenly, the sound of a vibration makes you turn your head. The display shows the name of it: strong, true, the official said. She does not respond. I'm bad, think while the other fits and tries to embrace. No, I'm not bad, this will take for granted. Then yawns and curls up in the arms of one who snores beside her.
was born in the eighties. Peruvian born when the poets who are now between forty and sixty years were beginning to impose their transgressive voice in the poetry of my country. I was born when brewing verses possessing a clear reference to erotic female subject under the influence of a suicidal poet, a Peruvian of twenty-three unfinished poems that had already said "I'm the bad girl of the story / that whoredom with three men / and pulled out her husband cheated on. " Maria Emilia Cornejo, author of the poetry book "In the middle of the road" published seventeen years after his death, had become a legend in poetry written by women in Peru not only because of his untimely death - which I think contributed to this myth - but, mainly, to say the record straight with regard to sense of women in a handful of verses rather naive maybe did not plan to publish, but in fact set the tone for the poets who succeeded him talk about orgasms, body fluids and clandestine mounted grab a voice and lyrics that in their opinion, stated as a subject, but that also reaffirmed its position of objects inside the Peruvian literary criticism. However, the image Maria Emilia transgressive ignores the quality of the verses to open a road that has been traveled by many writers, who despite doing so with greater expertise, they will never attain the image of the suicidal poet who called himself "the girl bad history "and that it was so into it.
was born in eighty-three, when Pedro Almodovar and had three movies and the fourth began to take shape. The first "Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like" had been installed in underground culture to portray the reality that existed post-Franco in Madrid in these years, a chaotic reality, decadent transgressive. The protagonists of this story are three women, three girls from the pile that banish the image of the "right woman" and replace it with three realities that were hidden, realities that no one mentioned images is crude. Starting Pepi, a young woman who grows marijuana in his balcony and is willing to sell her virginity to the highest bidder, then Luci, a masochistic forties decides to leave her husband to become groupie a rocker teenager who falls in love and is called Bom, who in turn is sadistic, lesbian, and that in his lyrics makes clear reference to his sexual fantasies. Three transgressive, three women recreated by a filmmaker to break the traditional mold and plant, consciously or unconsciously, a precedent that would be repeated in the following productions almodorvianas as a symbol that marked the change of an era. I cite these examples
twenty years ago to enter the subject of the image of the transgressive woman of our times. What can we do if it all made more than twenty years ago? Thanks to these women (real or fictional) have not had to give the job to open doors that are open, that is why I consider ridiculous that fully twenty-first century people are surprised when a woman talks or writes about issues that have been trying ages ago time. We are no longer transgressive, we inherit the transgression of those who came before, who set the tone, of those who fought for it. Because these days, whether questionable or not, nobody is surprised that a woman sleeps with many people at once, that has its disloyalty to bed, that is infidel, who has other sexual preferences. This is normal in the private space and I think it should be also in the public. Doing this is not transgress transgress now would be, for example, a virgin at marriage or think about being the perfect housewife. To open up another question, I think of the award-winning singer Amy Winehouse, who does the same thing they did Janis Joplin and Patti Smith for many years; however, have been labeled as the new image of women and offending different when that image has been there since the sixties and thus completely lacks novelty and Miss out tattooed, drugged and defend anorexia as a lifestyle .
This does not affirm that it has changed the image of women or that all so transgressive act, but I think there is some confusion as to what is or is not infringing, as to what the canon now, what is the correct image of women in these times. Which way we should seek to transgress and set a tone? Is there a way to rebel against any and all hegemonic system if have done before? Who are the real transgressors? What are the new ways of breaking these days? Is it necessary? How transgress transgression? What is the current image of the "good woman" and "evil woman"? I leave for work.

Bi-discrimination

She sat in the back of the room. When he saw enter the exhibitor and greet with a "lesbian, how they" got up, took her purse and left the room, crumpling the invitation he had received. Disappointed, he realized that not belong there and obviously the owner of the invitation "meeting of lesbians and bisexuals" over a word.
few months ago I was in a meeting convened by an international activist for the rights of the LGBT community and raised my dismay at the double discrimination against bisexuals by both those heterosexuals who can not conceive a relationship outside the one between a man and a woman, as those gays who believe that bisexuals are a "permanent" or "chameleons" incapable of taking an obvious stereotypes homosexuality or even worse, which claim to have a "double standard" that "are infidels because they have to have a couple of each sex", etc.
Attending that meeting was very interesting because I could hear some of the "reasons" which is believed to exist - what I call - the bidiscriminación not only in Peru but throughout Latin America. The main argument was that bisexuals do not go, not the "war footing" for their rights because they prefer to stay out of the situation or hiding in the closet, an argument made on the basis of the apparent absence of a bisexual group, a voice that comes out to claim-fight-go by this group. This hypothesis - that may be true - says a bigger problem, which I think is the main reason for the lack or invalidity of people with this sexual orientation within communities: The lack of identification of bisexuals with existing LGBT groups, which, in most cases, despite having clear guidelines inclusive explicitly segregated groups in their actions. Nobody likes to be in a meeting to be teased, to feel discriminated with comments, to feel out of place with a bow or unique words. Not too much sensitivity, but an obvious outrage. How can "push" to come out if this push you fall off a cliff even worse? Themselves visible in a heteronormative society always has consequences, there is always a price to pay either with family, friends, work, etc, therefore, is amazing, outrageous and disappointing that is also discrimination, invisibility and segregation within the same institutions that promote equality for the LGBT community. A clear case of bisexual invibisibilización was recently in Lima. Was launched in December a campaign for equality policy in which the documentation included both lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual, but none of the pieces displayed include this latest advertising sexual orientation, in fact the word "bisexual "was largely absent in the designs.
Among other arguments that were discussed at the meeting, said many homosexuals go through such a period of bisexuality before gay and clearly assumed that many bisexuals are "heterosexual flexible" relations using the same sex to experiment with their own sexuality. Well for those people, but they can not be considered bisexual. Bisexuals assumed as such recognize that they are capable of feeling attraction and establish a relationship (love, sex) with persons of the same or different sex. Not a comfortable position as many believe. Why not think about them before thinking of stereotypes or other realities? Why not take into account those people who do come out, those who choose not to repress their sexuality because they know that love, love and experience pleasure beyond a body, assumed bisexuality as an identity and not as a step to another reality.
Bisexuality is a sexual orientation should be respected. Can not ask for respect for sexual orientation hegemonic (heterosexual) if this does not begin at home. Can not make the LGBT movement in Peru and Latin America grow and become strong if it begins to divide and differentiate within the group. You can not create documents that are beautiful and inclusive because discriminatory actions and exclusive. It must begin with mutual respect, by working together, to open one's mind before opening the others, to dismiss stereotypes and to see other realities, to see people. Let us help eradicate homophobia, but also the biphobia. Finally, it is imperative to recognize and pay attention, the acronym LGBT and LGBT are really no permanent LGT and those who wander around like a letter left over every word.
